Ground Beef Nutrition Vs. Impossible™ Burger Nutrition

Maybe you heard about Impossible Burger from a friend, tried it at a restaurant or saw an influencer post an Impossible™ recipe on Instagram. Now the big question you’re probably wondering is whether Impossible Burger’s nutrition is comparable to ground beef nutrition.

The short answer is yes. Which is the long answer as well.

The most important thing to keep in mind about Impossible Burger is that it’s not just another veggie burger. It’s meat made from plants for people who like eating meat. Our team of chefs, scientists and nutritionists have created a delicious product that not only looks like ground beef, cooks like ground beef and tastes like ground beef*, it also provides complementary nutritional value to ground beef.

As far as actual protein, Impossible Burger and 80/20 ground beef provide the exact same amount of protein: 19g per a 4 oz serving. Why is that? Let’s start with the basic ingredient in Impossible Burger: soy. In nutrition science, there is something called the protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS). No, it doesn’t trip lightly off the tongue, but it is a critical score for evaluating nutritional value in a food. Ground beef has a score of 0.92. Soy protein, which is the core of Impossible Burger, has a PDCSAAS of 0.99 and is the only plant protein that can rival animal beef in terms of protein quality. Soy is also rich in magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and iron—essential minerals your body needs. Impossible Burger is an excellent source of vitamins B1, B12, niacin and zinc. It even boasts 7X more the daily value of calcium than 80/20 ground beef from cows**.

That’s one reason Impossible Burger is so loved by consumers: it’s meat, made from plants, that you can feel good about eating. In addition to being better for the planet, Impossible™ meat made from plants is flavorful and delicious, easy to work with, and gives you all the nutrients you expect from ground beef. Now the only question that remains is, ‘What are you going to cook first?’

*In a home usage study, 70% of 254 US consumers who cooked with Impossible™ Burger thought the taste was comparable to or better than ground beef from cows, and 77% thought it sizzled like ground beef from cows.

**80/20 ground beef contains 2% DV calcium while Impossible Burger contains 15% DV calcium per 4oz serving.
