How to Cook Impossible™ Sausage Made from Plants (+ why it is a must for your menu)

Americans love breakfast. Last year, American consumers ate nearly 102 billion breakfasts (in addition to 50 billion morning snacks) and consumer spending on QSR breakfast items is up 31% from 5 years ago. Over half of adults said they are more likely to pick up a breakfast meal from a fast food joint, coffee shop or restaurant on their way to work than they were two years ago, and coffee and snack establishments are seeing 47% of their customer traffic during the morning hours. Plant-based alternatives are also driving traffic during breakfast, with 32% of millennials saying they would like a vegetarian or vegan offering for breakfast. This is excellent news for restaurants considering adding new convenient options to the menu. Queue Impossible™ Sausage Made From Plants.

Do you have a satisfying, convenient breakfast option on your menu? If not, allow us to introduce you to your customers’ newest obsession. If you do, make room because you’re going to want to add this award-winning item to the menu.

What is Impossible Sausage?

Impossible Sausage comes in pre-seasoned, pre-cooked patties that are easy to cook with and perfect for breakfast — or any time of day. We took the spicy, savory and craveworthy taste people love about pork sausage and recreated the experience from plants.

Each 1.6 oz fully cooked and pre-seasoned patty contains the satisfying flavor and protein you love from animal pork sausage, but with:

  • 45% fewer calories*

  • 60% less total fat*

  • 50% less saturated fat* and

  • 0 mg of cholesterol (2.5g saturated fat)*

Since introducing Impossible Sausage, the industry has gone wild. From receiving the 2020 Food and Beverage award to being called ‘one of the most successful plant-based food launches in modern history’, our humble sausage patty has been making some big waves.

Why all the buzz? Because of its delicious, meaty taste. A Thrillist author even ‘forgot it was plant-based’ upon tasting it for the first time and admitted that “this one had me fooled because it tasted so much like regular breakfast sausage. I even checked the receipt to verify there hadn't been a mix-up. There hadn't.”

This sentiment is echoed by consumers at scale, as Impossible Sausage is preferred over the leading pork sausage:

In a test of over 200 consumers, the Impossible Sausage was preferred 54% to 46% over the same breakfast sandwich build made with the leading pork sausage.

Another benefit? Adding Impossible Sausage to your menu can drive greater sales, increased traffic, and deliver record performance.

How to Cook Impossible Sausage

Because Impossible Sausage comes in convenient, fully cooked and pre-seasoned patties, they work well in any breakfast menu item.

You can cook Impossible Sausage patties from a thawed or frozen state, but since they are pre-cooked, we recommend reheating each one to no more than 140°F. Impossible Sausage is best prepared seared on a flat-top griddle or in a saute pan with a dash of oil to prevent sticking. It can also be cooked in a microwave, turbochef, convection oven, or deep fryer, and we recommend it served hot for the best experience.

You can also dice the patties before heating to use in omelets, breakfast burritos or sausage gravy. For more information, check out our Back of House Cooking Guidelines.
