IMPOSSIBLE GOES HALAL

After working closely with auditors from the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA), we can say we’re proud too. In early October, they confirmed that all ingredients and production practices used to make Impossible Burger are completely halal-compliant according to Islamic dietary laws, as defined in the Koran and under Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) regulations.

Securing halal certification is a significant milestone for us. Our goal is to make delicious, plant-based meat available to everyone around the world -- regardless of religion or culture heritage. Earlier this year, we received our kosher certification from the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, and last month, we received the highly regarded Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification as administered by the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI). Now, the Impossible Burger can be served in halal establishments and enjoyed by those who adhere to a halal diet. To say we’re thrilled is an understatement.

To celebrate this milestone, we’re partnering with famous street food vendor Royal Grill Halal in New York City to serve Impossible meat starting December 11. Royal and Hira Alam, who started the truck in 2005, are members of the Street Vendor Project, the non-profit organization at the Urban Justice Center that provides legal representation and business support to vendors across NYC.

Royal Grill Halal (located at 44th St. and Sixth Ave. in Midtown Manhattan), serves Indian favorites six days a week from 11 am to 11 pm, and boasts five stars with 145 reviews on Yelp -- making them the highest-rated street vendor in New York City. They’re also the winner of the top prize at the 2018 Vendy Awards. Their secret to success? “Making everything from the heart.”
