This Impossible Cheesesteak recipe will save you a trip to Philadelphia—and also help save the planet. This meaty, warm, melty sandwich just hits in all the right ways. After all, what’s better than gooey cheese, caramelized onion, and perfectly-cooked beef, all layered harmoniously together on a hoagie?
The most important step in this recipe is properly caramelizing the onions. Go low and slow (low heat, take your time). That's the hardest part, but after you've done that and cooked your Impossible Beef and cheese, all that's left is to assemble your sandwich. By that point, you will be drooling enough to flood your apartment, but the end sandwich will have made it worth it. Enjoy!

8 Ingredients

  • 12 oz Package Impossible™ Beef
  • 3 White Onions
  • 3 Cups of Cola
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Salt and Pepper To Taste
  • 3 Six-Inch Hoagie Rolls

Cheese Sauce

  • 7 oz American Cheese
  • 7 oz Water

How to prepare

Step 1: Prep the Caramelized Onions

Thinly slice the onion. Combine the sliced onion, cola, and a pinch of salt in a small pot and heat to a simmer. Cook down until the onions are reduced and the cola is completely evaporated. Be careful not to burn them!

Step 2: Make the Cheese Sauce

To make the cheese sauce, combine cheese and water in a small sauce pot and bring to medium heat. Whisk until fully incorporated, and keep warm for serving. *Make it 100% plant-based by using plant-based cheese.

Step 3: Cook the Impossible Beef

Heat the oil in a non-stick pan on medium-high heat. Crumble the Impossible Beef into the pan and sear while stirring. Add salt and fresh cracked pepper to taste.

Step 4: Assemble the Sandwich

Once the Impossible Beef is cooked, stir in caramelized onion. Place this mixture on 6-inch hoagie roll, and top with cheese sauce. Place your assembled sandwich in the oven and set to broil for approximately 20 seconds, or until the cheese is melted.

Step 5: Serve, Share, and Enjoy

Makes three cheesesteak sandwiches.
